A Complete Guide to Country Western Wedding

As a girl who grew up in Texas, I have a special place in my heart for rustic weddings. When I started planning my own wedding and wanted to have the perfect wedding dress, I knew it had to be a true western style celebration. Here, I'd like to share some of the things I learned during the planning process in hopes of helping newcomers who are dreaming of a rustic wedding.

Choosing a Wedding Venue

First and foremost, choosing a wedding venue is crucial. In our area, the beautiful barns of Hill Country are the most popular choice. If you can't find the ideal venue, think about converting a local barn.

Simplicity and authenticity are key to a rustic wedding. You can create a unique venue by clearing out a rustic space, hanging lights and filling it with flowers.

Or, if the weather is right, you can consider having your wedding outdoors, such as in a sprawling orchard, on the shores of a crystal-clear lake, or in a peaceful meadow.

Decoration style

Western style wedding decor should be full of country life. I recommend using lots of wildflowers, as well as rustic elements such as old ladders, lace-wrapped bouquets, tin cans, horseshoes and hay bales. If the weather is hot, have fans printed on the wedding program or provide umbrellas at the door.

Wedding Food

Food is another important element in a western style wedding. You can choose between a buffet-style or a sit-down reception. For a sit-down dinner, nothing is more rustic than a large family style meal.

Plenty of southern favorites are offered and are constantly being served! Dishes made with fresh ingredients from local farms are great for sit-down receptions. And for a buffet-style reception, barbecue is the obvious choice. It's a cost-effective way to satisfy the appetites of a large number of guests. Just remember to have plenty of napkins on hand!

Wedding Attire

In a western style wedding, it's all about comfort. For the bride, a rustic wedding dress can be gorgeous or simply sweet. As long as the bride feels happy and comfortable, everything else is easy.

When it comes to accessories, there are no set rules. You can cinch your waist with a country style belt, replace the traditional veil with a wide-brimmed tweed hat, or even wear a denim jacket when the weather gets cooler.

Also remember to pack a pretty robe or lace kimono for the bride to wear during the preparations.

Western Style Wedding Traditions

Here in Texas, we know all about country wedding traditions. Just outside of our town, there is a large tree called the Wedding Oak Tree that has seen countless wedding ceremonies, starting with the Indians and pioneers and continuing to this day.

The tree even inspired the name of a famous, award-winning San Saba winery and is on National Geographic's "Trees to Watch" list.

At the end of the day
